Statement:
The main focus of my work is representating drapery realistically through paint. The works are richly layered and stylistically complex, as the drapery evokes a landscape of colour across the canvas. The perceptual response collocates to an abstract interpretation as the paintings continusly reveal themselves to the viewer.
The spacial impact is one of control. The works are painted uniformally, not exposing where the painting begins and ends. There is a strong emphasis on lighting and compostion. Each element is thoughtfully constructed, from the complex set-ups in the studio to the controlled parameters of their display. Created is an envirnoment that surrounds and envelopes the viewer.
Occassionaly, objects are integrated to distrupt this landscape, so textures and solid forms juxtapose the subdue flow of the fabric. These objects are both concealed and revealed within this fabric, this intricate composition constructs the visual dialogue around the painting.
Additionally, referencing an ‘object’, is a crease, or pattern, or stain in the fabric. Each of these ‘objects’ or marks, are evidence or a traceing of a human interaction with the fabric. Leaving behind a memory in the swathe of fabric. These interuptions or ‘objects’ slowly appear from the picture landscape.
